Crafting Our Teams:
A Strategic Approach to Development and Success
At Club Savannah, the formation of teams and the selection of their tournament schedules are meticulously planned processes, designed to foster optimal development, challenge, and success at every level. We understand that there are distinct sets of demands at each program level, from our Local to our Mizuno teams, and our goal is to align these demands with the unique characteristics of each roster.
When constructing teams, we carefully consider individual player skill sets, athletic potential, experience, and commitment levels. This thoughtful pairing of talent allows us to create cohesive units that are both strong individually and collectively.
In cases where we want additional time to ensure the best possible fit for everyone, we may issue program-level offers (e.g., National, Select, Regional, State, or Local) rather than immediate specific team assignments. Once a family commits to that program, this extended evaluation window gives our coaching staff the opportunity to thoroughly assess players and accurately place them on the specific roster that will best support their growth and skill development.
Simultaneously, we strategically select tournament schedules that complement the make-up of each team. The aim is to create a pathway that will push players to execute and meet the demands upon them, while still ensuring they experience a crucial balance of challenge and achievement. This means that while some schedules will be intensely competitive to prepare for collegiate play, others will prioritize foundational learning and consistent application of new skills.
For high school athletes in our National, Select, Regional, and State programs, we may also take high school attendance into consideration during team placement. Spring break schedules vary across local schools and can disrupt a team’s training cycle and tournament availability, so accounting for these differences helps us maintain consistent roster continuity throughout the season.
Ultimately, our approach ensures that every team, regardless of its level, has the best opportunity for success and growth throughout the season. We believe this thoughtful orchestration of team composition and competitive environment is key to maximizing player development and achieving our collective goals.
