CLUB
HISTORY

Club Savannah was started in the fall of 2000 by Donna Roundtree with two teams of 8 to give young girls in the Savannah area the chance to increase their volleyball skills and compete in USAV sanctioned tournaments as a member of the Palmetto Region. As the reputation of the club grew so did the membership to an average of 70 girls. In 2004, a non-travel program for girls in middle school was developed. The program was limited to a specific number of participants to ensure that each girl in the program received the best instruction available.

In 2006 Donna turned the club over to Mike Lance who had been coaching for the club since 2004. Mike continued the programs Donna had stated and the club continued to grow. The combination of travel and non-travel programs increased the enrollment in the club to 120 girls. The travel teams competed in tournaments in Georgia andFlorida.

A non-travel program for girls eight to ten years old was established in 2007. The program focused on teaching the young participants the basic fundamentals of the sport and making each session fun! The rewards of the program came to fruition during the 2010/2011 club season when three of the participants in the original year of the 8 to 10-year-old program were starters on the Club Savannah 12-year-old team that made it to the USAV Nationals held in Atlanta, GA. Matt Linebarger assumed the role as the Club Director for the 2011-2012 season.
